Dental Bridge
Dr. Josh Lebovics with Simi West Dental Group provides dental bridges in Simi Valley. A bridge is a dental appliance that Dr. Lebovics can utilize to help you replace your missing teeth. There are many different types of bridges that can be used to restore your smile. Dr. Lebovics will sit down with you and discuss the best treatment options based on the amount of teeth that are missing.
A traditional bridge is the most common type of dental bridge. A traditional dental bridge, or porcelain bridge as it is commonly known, is made of porcelain and is fused to metal. The artificial tooth (or teeth), known as pontics, are attached to two of your natural teeth and serve as anchors. The gaps created by missing teeth can be replaced with dental filling material.
The dental bridges placed by Dr. Lebovics are very durable and usually last for many years. Normal wear of your dental bridge may lead to the bridge needing to be re-cemented or replaced with another bridge. Your consultation will include additional information about the proper care and maintenance.
What does getting a fixed bridge involve?
There are several types of bridges. You and your dentist will discuss the best options for your particular case. The “traditional bridge” is the most popular type and is generally made porcelain fused to metal. This type of bridge consists of two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by multiple missing teeth. Please see the image below for a visual representation of the dental bridge procedure.
Reasons for fixed bridge:
Patients seek dental bridges for a variety of reasons. Dental bridges can be used to fill the space that is created by a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. However, dental bridges can also be used to maintain a strong facial shape. Other uses for dental bridges include the restoration of chewing and speaking ability that may be compromised from lost teeth. Restoration of your beautiful smile is important and through the use of dental bridges, Dr. Lebovics can help you achieve the smile you desire to have.
